Character name: Dr. Tae Takemi

butterfly_kiss
Series name: Persona 5
Canon notes: Early August, Post Social Link Level 9 Interaction.
Species: Human
Age: Early 30s (unstated in game)
Arrival Condition: Perfectly Healthy
History: History
Personality:
Humorous - Tae has a wicked and often dark sense of humor. The first time she offers medication to her clinical study subject she says not to worry about the contents as the autopsy would tell her exactly what killed him. Later when helping a father who wanted a second opinion on his daughter's condition, she jokingly said the fee was a million yen (and was shocked when he was angry for less than a minute before asking her to stay there while he got cash).
Caring - At the end of the day, and no matter how much she tries to hide it, Tae cares about her patients. She makes frequent calls to her 'Guinea pig' after trial days to make sure he made it home safely, even though his residence is in spitting distance of her office. When a young girl is brought in with breathing problems and she can no longer justify waiting, she immediately throws all of her focus into her patient and puts all nearby hands to use. Asked by her 'Guinea pig' she does a home visit to a girl with agoraphobia without question. Once she even left her office to follow a patient who had left a scarf behind to make sure it was returned.
Insecure - With how she was betrayed by her superior at a research university, Tae became insecure. While it turns out she was not responsible for the downturn of a patient's status due to her trial medication, she takes the failures too much to heart. She claims the terms others throw at her, seriously calling herself a 'quack', 'the Plague', and even going so far as to actively and repeatedly convince locals that she is not the best choice for a physician. Once, when an ambulance driver called to ask if there were vacancies (thinking her clinic was a hospital), she offered her name and was hung up on, and seemed unsurprised and even encouraging of this reaction. Once, when it is suggested that she did care about her patients and her work suits her, she immediately insists she is only suited to her role as 'the Plague' and she isn't suited to be a doctor otherwise. It isn't until later that she comes to accept that the mistakes that shaped her recent life weren't her fault. This insecurity never extends to her drive in taking care of patients before her thought. Still, she frequently seems shocked when people have good things to say about her.
Perceptive - While clearly it has not always been the case, Tae has become somewhat good at reading people and their motivations. She chalks this up to the fact that she is seen as a 'quack' and does work on the fringes of acceptable, and so has been presented with plenty of people with ulterior motives in coming to her, thus making her good at reading lies. What's more she manages to figure out that her favorite teenaged 'Guinea pig' is actually a member of the famous 'Phantom Thieves' and she has been a part of their resource network. The place where her perceptiveness tends to fail is when she turns it on herself, as she doesn't tend to see her own kindness, drive, and positive impact.
Driven - Even though she was driven to the fringes of her field by a superior out for glory, Tae doesn't give up on her former research. While working as a local GP she still does studies on her previous area of research (an auto-immune disease known as Crawford-Ende's disease) in hopes of creating a treatment for the disease. Not even harassment from her former boss and increased patient load stop her from research and refining her medication, all in the name of a patient who suffered from her last attempts. What's more, when other patients come to her will illnesses she doesn't take the easy diagnosis but tries to get to root causes to ensure full recovery, putting her at odds with her former boss who is very dismissive.
